There’s something really rewarding about getting crafty and making gifts for your loved ones – not to mention being extremely cost-effective! Last Christmas, for the first time ever, I made a selection of balms, oils and treatments for my friends and family, and the response was fantastic – they’ve even put in requests for more this Christmas! In fact, getting creative with DIY beauty products is what prompted me to start up my old blog Get That Glow.
Taking inspiration from my previous post ‘Beauty Benefits of Seasonal Spices and Festive Fruits’, I’ve created a selection of festive homemade products using quintessential Christmas scents including Orange, Frankincense, Chocolate, Cinnamon, and Clove. All the ingredients and packaging are easily available online and some you may already have in your kitchen cupboard! Plus, I’ve put together some free printable gift labels for your handcrafted gifts!
Sweet Orange & Vanilla Lip Balm
This year, pretty much all my girlfriends requested a refill of this creamy lip balm and said it was one of the best lip balms they’d ever used! It’s so easy to make and you even add a chunk of natural lipstick to give the balm a slight tint. My favourite colour to use is the Benecos Peach or Pink Honey for a natural ‘your lips but better’ tone!
Spiced Grapefruit Beard Balm
Last year I made a beard balm for my boyfriend to keep his beard soft, well-groomed and smelling divine! You can replace the essential oil blend with any scent you wish but I find these scents work brilliantly for men’s products.
Spiced Earth Beard Oil
Facial oils and beard blends are the easiest to make – simply blend your chosen oils together and transfer into containers. Make sure you use a base that’s light in texture and not too heavy and greasy – something like rosehip, jojoba, maracuja, or pumpkin seed oil!
Spiced Chocolate Perfecting Mask
This mask is my favourite beauty treat. It smells delicious and leaves my skin feeling smooth, plump and glowing. It contains a combination of clay, cacao (rich in antioxidants!) and stimulating spices to increase circulation and boost skin repair and recovery. The fuller’s earth absorption powers boasts beauty benefits for skin by drawing oil, dirt and other harmful substances from clogged pores helping you to achieve a flawless complexion and fight acne.
What’s great about this product is that it’s so easy to make. It’s a dry powder that requires whoever receives the gift to mix 1 tsp of powder with an equal amount of liquid (water, herbal tea, yogurt, honey, apple cider vinegar). This means that the powder will last for ages in the container and can be enjoyed as a beauty mega-booster throughout the weeks and months after Christmas!
